My Story

Professional Counselor

I enjoy working as a clinician and have served my community since 2009.  I have a MS in Psychology with an emphasis in Addiction Studies.  I am registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors as an LPC.  I am certified with the Addiction Counselors Certification Board of Oregon as a CADC III.

I love the field of counseling as it provides me an opportunity to plant hope and support others.  I have a significant background in trauma, grief and loss, and addiction counseling.

I specialize in helping people identify and achieve their personal goals by coping with the issues that are causing them distress, anxiety, and stress. I take great pride in the progress and success of my clients, and look forward to helping you. Get in touch to learn more.

Philosophy and Approach

My belief about the therapy process is that all individuals have the inherent ability to create change in their lives in order to experience greater life satisfaction.  My approach is to facilitate this change by helping to uncover barriers to change and teaching more effective strategies for personal growth.  The relationship between counselor and client is based on respect, trust, and support.  My intention is to create an atmosphere for clients that allow for openness and honesty regarding problems so that we can work together to find solutions and clients are assisted in practicing new behaviors.

Credentials and Experience

I, Michelle Shannon, have completed my Masters of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Addictions at Kaplan University on August 17, 2016.  To maintain my certification and license I am required to participate in annual continuing education, taking classes dealing with subjects relevant to this profession.
